NOMS AND GULPS: Sophie Authentique - Kemang Review

Yesterday was a somewhat special day for me. No, it didn't refer to any special ocasion such as someone's birthday or anything similar whatsoever. It was special for me simply just because I got to woke up at 8 AM sharp, on Saturday, while usually I don't get up that early. Hahaha :p What can I say? I love my bed way too much. Actually the reason I got up early this morning was I had a 'date' with my cousins to try this umm... cafe (?) Called Sophie Authentique at Kemang area which is quite far from where we live and we kind of didn't want to waste much time since today is Saturday, and Saturday's traffic in Jakarta can be hella crazy. And so we went there, hoping we could get to that place before noon. But of course we failed to do so because of one wrong way and another directional problems... Blame our navigator for leading us to another place called 'Authentique Bakery' which is actually Sophie Authentique's first store (yes, Waze. I'm talking about you, you stupid son of a bi... awak). The reason why we wanted to visit the Sophie Authentique and not the other one was because my cousin had visited the previous branch and she told me that the place was really small.

Anyway, finally we made it there! Yay! We know it was located not far from Little Baghdad, but by the time we reached the neighbourhood, the said place was nowhere to be found for some reason. I wonder if it has been closed. But the point is we finally found Sophie Authentique! Hurrah!

The place was quite packed when we arrived (it was at 12 AM if I'm not mistaken) but thankfully there was an empty table for us. *Yay!*

Here are some pics of the interior:

Blue and white dominating the interior. They decorate their place mostly with simple wooden furnitures that gives this clean, enjoyable, humble vibes. Actually what I love most about this place is it really emphasize the using of natural light. It seems like they understand that natural light is the best light you can use to create a decent looking photo. #nofilter *Ahem* (Don't deny it, I know a lot of of you people also love to take pictures of your food!)

As for the food, you can find various freshly baked French bakery such as Quiche, Sandwich, Baguette, Bread, Pastry, Egg, Cake, etc. here. I've actually read some review about this place before going here so I kind of already know which were the recommended ones and we ordered some of them, plus some others that I wanted to try.

Croque Madame, Quiche Salmon, Lychee Iced Tea

Quiche Salmon - IDR 55K++
Name: Quiche Salmon
Price: IDR 55K + 10% PPN
You can tell by its name. This is a quiche with salmon chunks in it. The quiche was nice and fluffy. It was served along with salad as you can see in the picture. The salad was fresh and tangy from the dressing. I found it a bit too bland for my liking so I had to add some more salt and pepper onto it. But aside from that, this was a quite decent meal.

Croque Madame - IDR 70K++
Name: Croque Madame
Price: IDR 70K + 10% PPN
This is the dish that appears on every food blog about this place that I read so I felt like I had to try it. And did I regret my decision? NO! I liked this one. The bread was soft with crispy crust, the ham and cheese was generously given and it was... how do I describe it... melting and gooey? Haha... Might not be the most suitable word but you get the point anyway, right? My favorite was of course the sunny side up with that slightly runny egg yolk on the top. Oh and this Croque Madame was also more flavorful than the previous one. I guess you might want to try it whenever you visit this place :)

Millefeuille - IDR 45K++
We originally wanted to try the Chocolate Almond Croissant but ended up ordering this one. It was... OK. I'm not saying it wasn't good, I just have tasted a better one, or should I say the one that I like more. The millefeuille here was a bit dense, it wasn't... flaky enough for my liking...? Weird, huh? But the taste was not bad at all.

Mini Canele (4 pcs/box) - IDR 30K++
Now this, my friend, was special. I've never heard a single thing about canele before, let alone had it. This was actually my first time seeing them too. Why did I order the canele anyway? How did I figure about this thing? Well I read about it on some food blog of course. Ha!

They actually sell 2 version of this canele, the regular size for IDR 20K++ each, and the box contains 4 mini sized caneles like this one. Speaking of which, what is canele? Hmm... I can't really compare this to any other cakes/pastries honestly. All I can say is it has sweet caramel/vanilla flavor with umm... sort of rubbery texture. At first, I was guessing maybe canele would have similar taste with egg tart, but turned out it was nothing like one. I can't really tell whether I liked it or not tbh. It was just... edible for me, but maybe it's because I never had it before. I might want to order this again on my next visit here to get a better judgement :)

VERDICT: The place was cozy, the food was good, the servers were attentive. It was worth the journey since you can say I live quite far away from this place. We had a great time having brunch (or more like lunch... hahaha) here! :)
