I Tried Eyelash Extension and It Was...

Being a woman who likes but sucks at makeup is hard. Well if you're like me, a lazy lady potato who always want to look put together without any with just a little effort, then you've probably consider a semi-permanent makeup at least once in your lifetime. I got my eyebrows microbladed months ago actually - and trust me it's one of the best spending I've ever done. Saved more time than you've ever imagined since I used to spend A LOT of time doing my eyebrows because they are not symmetrical and even though a beauty guru (hello, Michelle Phan...) once said "eyebrows are sisters, not twins", my eyebrows tend to look more like neighbors than sisters, let alone twins.

And speaking of makeup, my everyday makeup usually consist of things that are just enough to make me look less like a zombie. I actually never use mascara though, because I think that's a pointless thing to do. My natural eyelashes are so short and thin nothing can ever lift them up properly. Using mascara will just leave me with black strokes and stains under my eyes and that's certainly not something I want. So when eyelash extension becomes a thing and there's also discount promo, I decided to give it a go.

The Process

Firstly, you will consult the beautician about what kind of lashes that suits you/you want, then after it's been decided, she will ask you to lay down still and put those... I don't know what those are called... white chilled plaster under your eyes so the glue won't stick to another part besides your eyelashes. The process itself was a bit boring yet weirdly calming. You're meant to close your eyes and lay still during the whole work and there's usually calming instrumental music playing in the store. It shouldn't be painful at all. In fact I even fell asleep for a while back then. While you're enjoying yourself, the beautician will glue individual strands of false lashes onto your real lashes.

The Result

After the beautician finished doing my lashes, she gave me a mirror and told me to open my eyes. Holy shit! I LOOKED LIKE A DEER. My lashes were curled up, long and voluminous. I feel like they're so dramatic I could probably be in one of Lady Gaga's music video. LOL. But no, everyone else told me it looks natural and not dramatic at all though. Oh, and the best part is THE LASHES MAGICALLY GIVE ME DOUBLE EYELIDS. It's like surgery, but wayyyyy cheaper. I like how they look and to be honest they actually feel strange at first, you'll want to touch them repeatedly. But you'll get used to it after some time.

My Thoughts

CONS:
  • Yes, they give you the "I woke up like dis" moment every morning, but if you like to rub your eyes when you wake up (like I do), always be prepared to hold your hands and feel your eyes get sticky from those morning gunk until you wash your face... or eyes, whatever.
  • Speaking of which, washing your face becomes a pain in the ass. You also wouldn't want to accidentally rub your pretty lashes but you'd also not want the water to get into your eyes. Oh the dilemma. In conclusion: Keep your freaking hands away from your eyes.
  • It needs maintenance (retouch) once every 2-4 weeks or else you'll end up with funny patchy looking lashes, and that means you need to prepare an extra budget.
 PROS:
  • The lashes make your eyes pop by default so you won't spend a lot of time on eye makeup.
  • The glue is supposed to be stronger (duh) than regular false lashes glue and I figured out that a little accidental rubbing won't damage your lashes that much. Oh and fyi I've done the procedure for like 1 month or so yet the false lashes are still decent looking even thoug some of them had fallen out.
  • You look put together with a minimum effort (MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!)

Conclusion

Turns out, having eyelash extension on your eyes is not as simple as I thought before. I was wrong. It takes a lot to take care of them if you want a longer lasting pretty lashes on your eyes. If you are delicate and careful (plus point if you are also graceful), not "grasak-grusuk" (Idk how to explain that words in English) like me, I really recommend you to get an eyelash extension. 100% get them, but don't forget to retouch within 2-4 weeks after (depends) like I said before. It's worth it, but I don't think I'm comfortable living my daily life with it for a long time. Would I do it again? Probably. But in the mean time I don't think I'll go for a retouch session.
