RECIPE (???): My Kind of Comfort Food - Hot Milo/Ovomaltine with Hup Seng Cream Crackers

I'm sure everybody has their own preference of comfort food. Remember when you don't feel well or you just want to be reminded of your childhood home, or simply just want to comfort yourself or your stomach (hence the name), you often crave for a food that could make you feel better inside? :)

I got the idea to post about this go-to comfort food thing just yesterday actually. Here's the situation: I caught a cold, I had runny nose and raspy voice, it's raining outside, I was kinda hungry yet I didn't feel like eating anything. But I was hungry! (I did mention that before, right?) and I was practically alone at home. So in conclusion I was not OK and I need something to fill my stomach but I don't really want something heavy like a dinner/meal or anything. So I go for the ultimate comfort food that my mom used to give me or tell me to have whenever I am sick or need a quick fix for mild grumbling stomach in the middle of the night: Milo with Cream Crackers (or just like my Hokkien speaking Mom call it: Kiam pia uun Milo). For fellow Indonesian: Biskuit malkist (yang tanpa gula), merek Khong Guan juga ada kok, lalu dicelupin ke Milo anget sampe rada lonyot. Beuhhh mantab jaya!

I really like the taste of cream crackers soaked soaked in the chocolate drink until it becomes slightly soft in texture. It's sweet, a little bit salty, soft textured and... ugh, just comforting. You should definitely try it. I know many people here in Indonesia like to soak Marie Regal biscuit with tea and other people dunk their cookies into a glass of milk, but I'd prefer cream crackers and Milo anytime, therefore I'm going to share how to make it (to my liking of course) just so you guys can try it yourself.

All you have to do was:

  1. Make a mug or half mug of Milo/Ovomaltine (I used the latter yesterday because I only have that in my kitchen) with hot milk or hot water - note that the milk version in creamier that the water version, and if you happen to only have the instant sachet version in hand, just make it according to the instruction
  2. Get some (3-5 pcs) cream crackers/malkist/kiam pia (preferably of Hup Seng brand because I think theirs is creamier and more fragrant - go find it at asian grocery stores)
  3. Dip the cracker for about 10 seconds or so (the time isn't fixed of course, and if you want to get it soaked fully rather than dipped, go ahead)
  4. Enjoy!
I put question marks beside the word 'RECIPE' because I'm not sure about calling this a recipe since I literally don't have to do anything to make it besides tearing the packaging, pour the content into a mug, add hot milk and stir until dissolved, and then have it with some (or a lot of) cream crackers.

Btw does anyone know this combination before? Or do you guys have any other comfort food that you'd like to share? Pls leave comments below :)
